Matt Herndon
Mr. Herndon has over thirty years of experience in our industry. In 1991, he was enjoying his college career and playing baseball for Northeastern Oklahoma College, but his time there was cut short due to an injury, and he decided his best path forward was to focus on his career. It paid off for him, and he quickly got a job at a small trucking company called Choctaw Express where he worked his way up to Operations Manager. That company was soon bought by PAM Transportation Services. Over the years, Matt held progressing roles within PAM Transportation Services, eventually becoming the company's Chief Operating Officer. After 27 years with PAM Transportation, Matt left the company to serve as President and COO of US Xpress.
It was after his transition to US Xpress when Matt was presented with an opportunity he couldn’t pass up: to serve as the President and CEO of United Petroleum Transports. Based in Oklahoma, Matt’s home state, and with tremendous potential for growth, Matt made the leap and joined UPT, a family-owned and operated company.
As a seasoned transportation executive, Matt understands the business of trucking, but his true strength lies in the ability to operate a business while managing people; to lead, develop, and grow companies by utilizing people's talents and building strong teams.
Although he is a busy man, he always has time for his family. He has been married to his wife, Merri, for over 30 years. Together, they have two sons. His oldest just graduated law school, while his youngest is playing football at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK.
